? ? ? ? WHAT'S HAPPENING ? ? ? ?

Celebrate "Repeal Day"

December 5 marks the anniversary of the 1933 amendment repealing prohibition.  The Umatilla County Historical Society in Pendleton is going to commemorate this act in true Umatilla-County style.  There's going to be a gathering at the Slickfork Saloon at Hamley's (upstairs, side entrance on SE 1st St.), and everyone is going to learn all about the prohibition era in Umatilla County (and the country) via a slide show full of factoids and pictures galore.  The Master Bartenders at Hamley's are going to demonstrate how to make the most popular cocktails of the Prohibition Era.  There will be a no-host bar so that you can taste test those cocktails, or oder your favorite drink to celebrate the end of prohibition.  There will also be hors-d'oeuvres and a silent auction.

Women's Suffrage

On November 9th & 10th, The Heritage Station Museum in Pendleton will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of Oregon legislation granting women in the state the right to vote.  There will be an exhibition, presentations and storytelling.

Men are invited also!  Many men long sympathized with the women's suffrage movement, and when the Umatilla County Woman's Suffrage Association was first organized in the mid-1870s, many of the county's leading male citizens became members.

The Umatilla Museum and Historical Foundation is always looking for new members!  Do you love history and enjoy meeting new people?  Become a member and VOLUNTEER!  There is so much we could do with our museum if we only had more ideas and the manpower to implement them.

The museum will be closed for the winter soon.  Our last day this season is October 13, 2012.  If you haven't visited yet, do so soon!  We have cut our hours so give us a call before you come!  If you have a special occasion or a group that would like a tour, we will gladly open the doors for you.
