OK folks!  Landing Days starts Friday, June 22nd and runs through Sunday, June 24th.

On Friday night at 7 p.m. there will be a play at the high school - Operation Clean Sweep.  This is a Reader's Theater presentation based on the Petticoat Rebellion in 1916 when the women of Umatilla took over the town.

Saturdays schedule starts with the 5k/10k Fun Run/Walk - It's Just a "Dam" Run.  Preparation begins at 7:30, and the race starts at 8:15 at Spillway Park, West McNary Dam.

The parade starts at 10:30 on Hwy 730.  Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the fun.

Entertainment at the Marina Park starts at 12:00 and runs until after the FIREWORKS at dusk!  There will be vendors, entertainment, Ferry rides, kids games, a bouncy house, a petting zoo and MORE!

On Sunday, the events at the Marina Park run from 12:00 to 4:00.  There will be a 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, museum tours and don't forget the BUS TOUR OF OLD TOWN!

It's an event filled weekend.  Come and have fun with us as Umatilla celebrates it's 150th Birthday!

We are looking for a "Sheriff" to arrest wayward citizens during the Landing Days festivities on June 23rd.  They will work with their "deputies" to bring these miscreants to justice in front of our judge, who will sentence them to time in lockup.  We are using the cities old jail in the museum.  If you have the time or know someone that might enjoy a day playing "sheriff", give us a call.

We are still looking for drivers for our bus tour of old town on Sunday, June 24th.  We need someone with the proper license to do this.

Call us at 541-922-0209.

The museum had a fun morning on Friday!  Larry and Marge got there at 10 a.m. sharp and there were about 25 people milling around outside the door, waiting for the museum to open!  The folks were all Stanfields!  Yup, the family the town was named after.  They were from all over the country - Petaluma, California; Puyallup, Kinston, Bainbridge Island, Entiat, Vernon, and Renton, Washington; Portland, Talent, Sutherlin, Bend and Myrtle Point, Oregon; Carbondale, Colordo; Chicago, Illinois and Honolulu, Hawaii!  Larry and Marge had a great time visiting and hearing stories of the days of old.

Such is the life of the Umatilla Museum volunteers!

In the last week we've had visitors from Yakima, Pasco, Spokane and Bainbridge Island, Washington, and Cascade Locks, Eugene, Springfield, Hermiston and Umatilla, Oregon.  Going through the guest book I noticed that back in April we had a gentleman from Mongolia stop by!  I bet he would get the award for traveling the furthest!  It's fun to meet people traveling through town.  Are you interested in people and history?  Become a member of the museum and volunteer your time.  We are looking for new members.
Permission has been granted for the Old Town tour!!  We are so excited about this.  Larry has worked his tail off planning this event.  We all need to say a big "Thank You, Larry"!  The tours will be held on June 24th, starting at the museum.  This is a drive thru tour, in our buses only.  No one will be permitted to enter alone, either by auto or on foot.  There will be a running dialog of the sights and the tours will be 30-50 minutes long.  We are not going to hurry.  A small fee will be charged - $2.00 to $3.00, to help cover the cost of fuel.  Be sure and get on the schedule for this wonderful opportunity!  It may not come along again for another 50 years!  Call us for more information.
