150th Anniversary of the City of Umatilla

The 150th anniversary of the city is being celebrated on June 23rd and 24th.  The museum is supporting this event with several community related activities.

Tour of Old Town

The first and most significant is a tour of the "old town" of Umatilla on June 24th.  If all goes as planned and permission is granted from The Corp of Engineers and the CTUIR, the museum will be conducting drive through tours of selected areas of the old town.  The tours will be 30-50 minutes long and a running dialog of sights will be made.  We may charge a small fee to offset the high cost of gas.

Locking Up The Town

The second 150th activity we have planned is to "arrest" wayward citizens and visitors at the celebration.  The old jail of the City of Umatilla will be used to incarcerate offenders.  A new sheriff with "deputies" will be patrolling the city catching "lawbreakers".  We will have a genuine "judge" passing sentences and ordering miscreants to time in the museum's lockup.  Should be a lot of fun.

On a serious note, the museum is now actively seeking new members.  We have many new resources to work with and both members and volunteers are needed to make our museum the premier place to visit in Umatilla and the surrounding area.

If you have an interest in history and the area, please stop by the museum or call us for more information.

We all know that many old and interesting historical items are in homes around the area.  Wouldn't it be very satisfying to let your museum display those for all visitors to see?  We think so.  We want to encourage each and every one to consider either a loan or donation of that special item to the museum (on your terms).  Call us or stop by.
